We've finally semi retired our trusty old MOTU. It's still in the rack as an ADAT and a backup, but we're LOVING

our new RME Fireface 802 and the TotalMix FX DSP mixer is just amazing. You can actually route anything to anything else, which anyone used to using DSP mixers is not the usual state of affairs. Great work RME.

We've finally bitten the bullet and invested in Pro Tools. We're enjoying learning this great system. Very much enjoying the file handling and editing features. For any Voiceover work, it's fantastic.

I've been lent a Valvotonics Gain Ryder 3, a classic 2 channel valve compressor. According to reviews, it's great on vocals, guitars, bass and pretty much anything except some percussion. It's great as a buss compressor and has some interesting side chain options. It's apparently one of those units which improves the sound just by passing the signal through the circuitry, even if it's not compressing anything, a little like the old Pultec EQ units. Looking forward to trying it out soon. Arcelia are soon to start recording tracks for their 3rd album so wish me luck! I'll post more when I have run a few tests.
